Civics Academy runs public Education Campaign ahead of 2021 Local Government Elections – sign up now!

As South Africa prepares for the 2021 local government elections, Civics Academy is embarking on a month-long civic education campaign.

Aimed at new voters and South African citizens who want to understand their democratic rights and responsibilities around the local government elections, Civics Academy is running an educational campaign releasing one short video daily. Each video covers a topic related to democracy, elections, local government, and active civic participation.

“According to the Constitution, one of the objects of local government is encouraging the involvement of communities in matters of local government,” says Dr Sithembile Mbete, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Pretoria.

We would like to encourage schools, colleges, universities, and civic organisations to share and use these videos freely,” says Uta Lehmann, project lead for Civics Academy.

Partners are invited to contact the organisation through our website or directly through social media @civicsacademyZA on Twitter or on Facebook.
